Andrew Garfield recently discussed his new film, “We Live in Time,” at the 92NY, sharing details about the sex scene he had to enact with Florence Pugh. “We Live in Time” lifted the curtain on its trailer in July, giving a glimpse at the duo’s palpable chemistry. Last month, the movie made the world premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. Now, Garfield is raising the anticipation after making exciting new revelations about the project.
Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh’s ‘We Live in Time’ sex scene had an awkward moment
As per Deadline, Garfield recalled filming a “very intimate, passionate sex scene” with Pugh for “We Live in Time.” The 41-year-old actor explained they were shooting on a closed set in a room at an old country house, where the film’s characters live. The cinematographer and boom operator were the only ones who joined Garfield and Pugh. Meanwhile, director John Crawley was in another room next door. Things became awkward as Garfield and Pugh went “further” and the film’s cinematographer, Stuart Bentley, had to turn away.
Garfield shared, “The scene becomes passionate, as we choreographed it. And we get into it as it were.” However, the actor recalled that he and Pugh went “a little bit further” than what they had intended to do since they did not hear the “cut.” He revealed, “We’re just kinda like, ‘Ok, we’ll just go into the next thing, we’ll let this progress, and we’ll just carry on.'”
Garfield then shared that after a certain point, he and Pugh were “kind of telepathically saying to each other, ‘This definitely feels like a longer take.'” However, when he looked up, he spotted Stuart Bentley and the boom operator standing in the corner. Garfield demonstrated the scenario, “Stuart has the camera by his side and he’s turned into the wall.” The audience burst into laughter as the actor shared the awkward shooting incident.
