Victoria Monet has dropped the curtain on toxic rumors and speculation about her and her boyfriend John Gaines‘ breakup. In a lengthy note on X (formerly Twitter), Monet, who shares a three-year-old daughter with Gaines, confirmed that they broke up 10 months ago. However, in the same statement, she denied all “extremely false accusations” of “infidelity,” “toxic behavior,” and “drama.”
The post came as a joint statement from the former couple who tried “avoiding a formal statement” about their split. Monet and Gaines addressed rumors alleging that the singer had started dating Gaines while he was dating another woman.
Victoria Monet confirms breakup with boyfriend John Gaines
Victoria Monet and her baby daddy, John Gaines, have confirmed their breakup in an official joint statement on X. In the note, the former couple “honestly” and “with good intentions” stated that they “have been avoiding a formal statement.” The two believe there was no need to announce “something as natural and as personal as love” and expressed their original intentions “to keep this out of the public.”
But now, both Victoria Monet and John Gaines believe that “it is becoming more and more difficult to suppress” especially with toxic rumors about their breakup surfacing now and then. They revealed having “seen all of the questions” about “their origin story” and allegations, which they claim are “false.”
The duo further discussed the fact if they “owed” an explanation to anybody and realized “how social media can magnify the truth or run far with untruths.” Following this, they came to the ultimate conclusion to openly address the matter in hopes of putting a lid on it “for the sake of our healing process.”
Victoria Monet and John Gaines’ statement confirms that they have no longer been in a relationship for the past 10 months. The former couple announced that despite their breakup, they still “adore and respect” each other. They noted that there was neither any “infidelity,” “toxic behavior,” nor “drama” without revealing the real reason behind their split. The parents of one only mentioned the “fundamental growing” that they each have to do to “become the best versions of ourselves for our daughter,” claiming it is “best done apart.”
Monet and Gaines stated that their relationship “simply didn’t work out and that’s okay” but they still mean the “world” to each other. The two continued to “operate with love in every interaction of our family. We have an incredible daughter to raise and that is undoubtedly our number 1 priority forever,” said the statement. They asserted that “no relationship status can remove or replace that fact” and that they are “committed to doing the inner work” while placing their trust in God.
Lastly, the former couple expressed gratitude to all their “supporters, friends, and family” for their “love, care, and concern.” Additionally, they requested some “peace and space to maintain a safe and happy environment” as they continue to co-parent their girl, Hazel. The two also announced their intentions to “remain a family regardless of our public facing title,” asking them to be “understanding and gentle” to Hazel. Finally, they conveyed their appreciation for everyone who heard their side of the story and thanked well-wishers for keeping them in their prayers.
Victoria Monet and John Gaines supposedly started dating in February 2020 when he appeared in the Grammy-winner’s music video. While the two shared kisses in the video, they never confirmed a romantic relationship. Later that year in December, Gaines announced Monet’s pregnancy on his Instagram, and the following February, they welcomed their daughter, Hazel. Earlier this year, Monet and Gaines’ daughter also made her red carpet debut at the 66th Grammy Awards.
