A viral CTV News video shows the exact moments a steelworker denied Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau a handshake. The encounter took place in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, during Trudeau’s meet-and-greet with Algoma Steelworkers at the Sault-based plant. The 52-year-old was offering donuts to the workers and thanking them for their hard work when one of them voiced his concerns about high taxes and medical bills.

The video shows the unnamed steelworker questioning Justin Trudeau, “What about the 40% taxes I’m paying?” The man added, “And, and I don’t have a doctor.” Trudeau, calmly rebutting the steelwork’s argument, mentioned the Canadian government’s multimillion-dollar investment in workers, as reported by Fox News. He said, “The 25% tariffs we just brought in is going to help you out … that’s going to keep your job.”

Responding to this, the steelworker told Justin Trudeau, “I don’t believe you for a second.” Furthermore, the man mentioned how he expects their country’s people to vote out Trudeau this time. The Liberal Party leader countered, saying, “That’s what elections are for,” adding that he looks “forward to everyone exercising the right to vote. We are going to invest in you and your job.”

The remainder of their exchange included the steelworker, highlighting the benefits that unemployed Canadians get. He believes people “like my neighbor who doesn’t go to work because she’s lazy” can easily access affordable health care. This came in response to Justin Trudeau’s statement about their dental care initiative that helps hundreds of thousands of Canadians.

In his final remark, Justin Trudeau said, “Most Canadians try to stick up for each other, and that’s what we’ve got to keep doing,” Eventually, Trudeau wished the steelworker good luck who denied a handshake before walking about from the Prime Minister.
