Is the JD Vance Couch Story Involving a Latex Glove True?

Republican Vice Presidential Candidate JD Vance just can’t dodge claims that he made love to a latex glove stuck between two couch cushions at some point. In a viral tweet, a user claimed that Vance had written about his carnal relations with a sofa in his memoir, Hillbilly Elegy. Unfortunately for Vance, this quickly turned his triumph at being named Trump’s running mate to tears as the rumor spread like wildfire.

Did JD Vance say he made love to a couch in Hillbilly Elegy?

No, JD Vance did not write about having sex with a couch in Hillbilly Elegy. Unfortunately for him, the tweet from user @rickrudescalves (which is now private) claiming he did was written in a way that was just believable enough for viewers to run with it:

“can’t say for sure but he might be the first vp pick to have admitted in a ny times bestseller to f**king an inside out latext glove shoved between two vouch cushions (vance, hillbilly elegy, pp. 179-181)”

When viewers grabbed the book to check out the passage and found it didn’t exist, some claimed it was only in the first edition. However, at no point in its existence did the book contain anything remotely related to Vance crafting a fifi, sticking it in a couch, and going to town.

Despite the absurdity of the situation, plenty of people continue to be fooled into believing it’s true, and countless memes have been spawned concerning Vance’s supposed upholstery attraction. Even those who know that the claim cannot possibly be true have used it to poke fun at Vance. In particular, Democrat VP nominee Tim Walz referenced the meme in a joke during a rally in Philadelphia.

Despite pushback against the absurd joke, it doesn’t look like Vance will be able to shake his association with couches. The incident serves as a stark reminder of how quickly false information can spread online, impacting even the highest levels of politics.
