The Butt Punt Is Now a Thing Thanks to the Miami Dolphins (Watch the Hilarious Viral Video Here)

Sunday was jam-packed for football fans, with plenty of moments worthy of replay. From the Tampa Bay Buccaneers star quarterback Tom Brady embracing his kids pre-game in a shameless publicity stunt to the Minnesota Vikings pulling off a harrowing win over the Detroit Lions, there was a lot of pigskin-related activity to talk about. But nothing during the NFL’s big day compared to what we now know as the Butt Punt.

What is a Butt Punt? It’s a mortifying move and a trending hashtag all rolled into one and we have the Miami Dolphins to thank for it. With 1:33 remaining in the team’s game against the Buffalo Bills yesterday, the Dolphins’ Thomas Morstead punted the football…right into his blocker’s rear end.

“THE PUNT GOES OUT THE REAR OF THE END ZONE!” the official NFL Twitter account pun-derfully captioned a viral video of the move. (If a picture’s worth 1,000 words, a viral video has to be worth 10,000 laughs.)

But the back door action didn’t stop there. To add insult to posterior injury, Morstead then bumped butts with his blocker.

We’re guessing that move wasn’t in the Miami Dolphins’ game plan. Then again, who knows? We’ve seen worse plays than this – but none so funny.

Luckily, the embarrassing fumble didn’t hinder the Dolphins’ victory. They won the game 21-19. No butts about it.
