Mandatory Trailers: ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Totally Exists and Features Return of Sexy Beach Volleyball, A Lost Love Indeed

When it comes to the movie delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Top Gun: Maverick might be at the top of the list. Originally scheduled for 2019, the long-delayed sequel to the 80’s classic has had a hellacious ride to the big screen. Is Maverick finally making his return to screens? Or is this all just an elaborate mirage? Is this movie even real? At this point, the main job of the marketing is to remind us that this movie still exists.

The latest (presumably final) trailer for Top Gun: Maverick has been released and it looks… surprisingly great? Our hopes for the latest legacy sequel haven’t been too high, mostly because it’s impossible to retain the same level of hype for a movie that we were supposed to see three years ago. Nevertheless, here’s the latest trailer for Top Gun: Maverick in all its glory.

Does this trailer basically give away major story points? Absolutely. But we don’t care because you had us at Sexy Beach volleyball. Seriously though, this is a sexy trailer, proving that it is still possible to populate a Top Gun movie with some of the best-looking humans imaginable. From Tom Cruise and John Hamm’s Ham to Glen Powell and Miles Teller’s mustache, the drip is real in this trailer.

Not to mention the excellent use of the Top Gun theme music, which hits us in all the right places. Despite the lack of excitement in the lead-up to Top Gun: Maverick, we’re less than two months away from the debut of the movie, which is set for May 27. In the meantime, we’ll just have to lament the fact that we don’t get shirtless beach sports in more movies these days.
