Meanwhile in New York: A Somehow Surprised Michael Rapaport Films Shoplifter in the Act, Dude Are You Sure You’re a New Yorker?

New Yorkers are known for being unflappable. They’ve seen it all, from public urination to the Naked Cowboy in Times Square. But one Manhattan native, actor Michael Rappaport, was oddly shocked last week to see a man brazenly shoplifting in a Rite Aid.

The 51-year-old whipped out his phone just after a man allegedly filled a bag with Trojan condoms, shampoo, conditioner, soap, an electric shaver, Old Spice, Axe products, cologne, toothpaste, and other toiletries. He filmed the sticky-fingered dude as he made for the exit – and as a security guard stood by, oblivious (or uninterested) in the crime in progress.

“I can’t believe I’m seeing this shit,” Rappaport says in the video. “This fucking guy just filled his two bags up with everything in Rite Aid, right here on 80th and First Avenue is walking down the street like shit.”

Rappaport followed the man outside and continued filming, commenting, “Looking me in my face like, ‘What’s good?’ My man just went Christmas shopping in January.”

We’re surprised Rappaport could see anything at all, given the pedestal of wealthy white male privilege he’s perched on. But that’s OK, Twitter set this knucklehead straight.

In other words, sit down and shut up, Michael. You’re the embarrassment to New York in this scenario, not the so-called thief. Don’t you know the NYC motto? If you see someone shoplifting…no, you didn’t.
