Keanu Reeves Reveals Just How Bad a Singer He Is Whilst Trying to Explain the Essence of Famous Keanu Memes

Why do you think Keanu Reeves is so meme-able? That’s the question The Late Show host Stephen Colbert posed to his guest, actor Keanu Reeves, the other night. The question came after Reeves attempted to explain the “Sad Keanu” meme. (“I was thinking. I had stuff going on. I was hungry,” he said.)

Then Colbert asked Reeves why he thought he was so meme-able.

“I have no clue, sir,” the 57-year-old Matrix star responded.

“Really?” Colbert asked.

“Really,” Reeves said.

“You don’t understand? Because you have such a distinct character of your own and people kind of lay on you meme-ing.”

This is the moment in an otherwise unremarkable, three-part interview when Reeves did something totally unexpected – he started singing.

“Meme on me, when you’re not strong,” he crooned.

We hate to break it to the die-hard Keanu fans out there, but…dude can’t carry a tune to save his life. It was actually painful to listen to him butcher “Lean on Me,” even if his remix was hilarious, lyrically-speaking. And this, coming from a man who was in a band (Dogstar) for something like a decade (albeit it as a bassist) and played aspiring rock star Ted “Theodore” Logan in the Bill and Ted franchise.

Ah, well. One can’t be good at everything, and Reeves is entertaining enough onscreen without having to be good at singing, too.

We forgive you, Keanu. Just stick to movies and save the singing for the shower.
