INDIANAPOLIS — Colts assistant general manager Ed Dodds completed an interview with the Los Angeles Chargers on Wednesday, the Chargers announced.

Dodds has long been a candidate for a general manager spot, interviewing with six teams over the past three years.

He’s a hot candidate again.

Dodds has already interviewed with the Raiders and Panthers, and his latest interview comes with a Chargers team that plucked its last general manager, Tom Telesco, from Indianapolis. Telesco spent 11 seasons with the Chargers despite mixed results, a signal that there is security in Los Angeles.

The Chargers also have a young star quarterback, Justin Herbert, under contract for five years, and Los Angeles is looking for a head coach.

Dodds has also long been linked to Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, who interviewed with the Chargers on Monday.

The longtime Colts assistant, who has been Chris Ballard’s right-hand man in Indianapolis since Ballard took over in 2017, has always been patient, pulling out of at least three searches before the teams made a decision.

“Be patient,” Dodds said of his decision-making philosophy. “When you rush in, you’re not going to make a good decision.”
